Stack v3 Alpha 1 : Video Demo!
Here's a quick video of how (the unreleased) Stack v3 works. I think it's much improved - check it out:
Many thanks to all who've donated (and received their alpha version of Stack v3 in return) - I really appreciate it!

Wow, a lot of updates today ;)
ReplyDeleteJust wondering, does the grid view still work properly if the stack isn't in the dock?
I guess if the stack isn't in the dock then there has to be a close button in the corner (in both views). Something like in SBSettings.
ReplyDeleteI donated 5.00 Dollars because YOUR AWESOME!!
ReplyDeleteHow did you do that on your computer? Like a digital Iphone/itouch right on your comp.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the program calleD?
I think it comes with the iPhone SDK.
ReplyDeleteWOW... thats FANTASTIC!!
ReplyDeleteGreat JOB!
Yeah this looks amazing, great job!
ReplyDeleteI am also interested in how (if?) the stack works outside of the dock. If it did that would be awesome! It would be like categories buildt into the springboard ;P
Also from the screenshots in your previous post, you had multiply stacks. Would this be a feature in the release?
Is this going to be submitted to the App store or just available to jailbroken iPods/iPhones?
ReplyDeleteI have left a donation, and will be happy to leave another once this gets released. It's looking great! I am so pleased you have started work on this very useful app.
ReplyDeleteI donated and just recieved Stack v3 alpha2. It's FANATSIC!!! I works exactly the way the video shows. You can move it anywhere on the SpringBoard! Even works with Five Icon Dock w/o the need of a blank icon! Works great off the dock too! It acts kind of like Categories, but without the need load anything! It's just plain out AMAZING!!!
ReplyDeleteit looks great in the demo video,...
ReplyDeleteI just donated a few bucks cos you rule man,...
I hope I`m not too late for alpha test,...
my email is imajer@inet.hr
Dude this is awesome! I really like Stacks V3! I have a few suggestions however...
ReplyDelete1. When you click the menu button, the stack should close
2. You should be able to reposition the applications within the stack (slide them around, this isn't urgent just a suggestion)
3. You should be able to name the stacks, this way when we have a million of them, we can put "Games" or "Stocks" or "Media" as examples (like categories).
Any way, this is an awesome application, really looking forward to the full version!
Ya was just gona say, it would be 10 times better if ya could name each stack, this would completely replace categorize for me then
ReplyDeleteAwesome: with the ability to have several stacks (unlimited?) this will be an elegant alternative to "categorie" for Folder managment. Apple would have most likely implemented a folder solution that way... So I had to give you $10 !!
ReplyDeletethis look sweet just donated!
ReplyDeletesomeone send me the alpha release!!!!!!!!!!!!! =]b
iknowkungfu23@gmail.com
does the alpha have the ability to have multiple stacks?
ReplyDeletehey, don't know if it has been reported, but on the latest beta the icon doesn't stay where it was placed after a respring.
ReplyDeleteLove your work. Have just donated so you continue your great work. Cheers :-)
ReplyDeletePlease implement an option so you can choose between fan view and grid view. Looks excellent. Looking forward a beta release in Cydia.
ReplyDeleteEnjoying my alpha release :)
ReplyDeleteHow do I activate multiple stacks ?
Or is it not (yet) part of the alpha release ?
so will it work on a 2.2.1 first gen iphone? i hope it does!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt would be sweet if there were a way to make it so that the stack can be assigned a single icon rather then have the multiple icon look. Just like stacks on OS X where rather than display the stack, it displays the folder.
ReplyDeleteYeah, i just donated too :)
ReplyDeleteLove this app! hoping to receive my alpha copy! (plz!)
m_d_uk@hotmail.com
Chris, did you see the settings options in the settings.app ?
ReplyDeleteThere IS a single icon option.
How do I download it on m iPod Touch 2g jailbroken?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure is this is the iPhone Simulator.....
ReplyDeleteIf it is, how do you jailbreak the simulator? If there are certain files needed, please let me know....
Xander

Thank you very much for the new alpha version of stack V3, that i will receive as soon as possible by mail to farietti@libero.it
Antonio
Stackv3 is only for iphone?
ReplyDeleteIf it is then :/
@Anonymous er, no works on any iPod touch too…
ReplyDeletehey steven. how do i participate in the alpha testing after i donated?
ReplyDeleteHey! We have the same name! XD lol anyways after I donated how do i participate in the Alpha Testing cause this is awesome!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great addon (Stacks). In the latest build I was having some difficulty renaming the stack. I did update to rev b. This is a great alternative to categories it has a much better appeal to users
ReplyDeleteGreat work hope to see more to come
Donated. Installed alpha. *Grins*
ReplyDeleteHow would I go about adding more than 1 stack?
anyone?
steven told me that as of right now we cannot use multiple stacks
ReplyDeleteI didn't get an answer to that same question, but I think it's not (yet) supported.
ReplyDeleteI went ahead and donated - even tho you might want to note on your Stacks page that people cannot download Stack v2.2 any longer. There are plenty of sites linking there and I was confused at first not finding anything to download.
ReplyDeleteWaiting for my V3 alpha!

Looks great. Donated a few bucks. Hope I'm not too late for the alpha.

This is just fantastic! I just sent a donation. How can I get a copy of your awesome app v3?
ReplyDeletelove ur work just puttin up my 10 cents can we have our own images in place of stack images plus can we re shuffle icons inside a stack and disable delete icons in the stack option in preferencs.
ReplyDeletelove ur work.
Things I have noted...
ReplyDelete1. It's fantastic.
2. Remove animation too fast.
3. Animation when closing stack/grid is all over the place when it gets to the dock. It's like it bounces down there and zooms around in the dock before stopping.
4. When using grid and the stacks icon isn't in the toolbar, it forces a move of the icon to the toolbar before opening the grid. I would prefer it to not do this even if it required the grid size to be smaller to account for the actual position of the icon.
5. A good alternate icon would be that of a closed/open folder to suggest a stack/grid is a folder of apps.
6. When removing icons from a stack it would be nice if the icon shifted so you knew when dragging it out that it was doing something.
7. Reordering of icons in a stack is a must.
8. It's fantastic.

Just broke into my 3GS and donated. I think this is a must for the iPhone. Can't wait to get my Alpha! BTW, anyone have a ETA for my Alpha from your experience?
ReplyDeleteDo you know when the multiple stack will be implemented? So I can finally get rid of categories forever! :)
ReplyDeleteDoes this work on OS 3.0?
ReplyDeleteI've installed it but it does not appear in springboard..
Decided to support the development of Stacks 3.0 and itching for the alpha builds!
ReplyDelete@Alen
ReplyDeleteYou have to free up at least one space in Dock and reboot
Steven, great app! Donated and got my alpha version within a couple days, cheers on the speediness, though I'm sure you must be swamped.
ReplyDeleteThink I found a little UI bug, and didn't know where else to let you know so I'm posting here.
I have 5 items in my stack and the curving option enabled and my stack as the only icon in the dock with an image for the icon. I noticed the last icon (the highestmost) has a touch area that seems to be not quite aligned with the icon. When trying to touch squarely on the last icon it registers as the icon on the springboard behind it. The actual zone seems to be a little to the left of the icon.
Also, the icon in the dock under this configuration seems to shift slightly to the left when the dock is expanded and reset to the original position when re-collapsed. Nothing big except maybe the first problem, but I still love it! Best app I've ever spent money on, bar none!
Keep up the good work! Really looking forward to multiple stacks! and maybe icon re-ordering?
Thanks again!
Everyone, let's keep Steven motivated and show appreciation for well-designed functional apps with utility.
I can confirm what Mike observed with the curving Stack.
ReplyDeleteRight now I'm using Stack v3 in it's favorite rightmost slot of the dock and it's rock solid.
I do look forward to being able to have multiple stacks with folder-like icons and grid displays to use as folders in place of all these screens.
No doubt about it. Stack rulez!
K
Got the app the day after my donation! Thanks for that! I love it so far, but I only have one question, being is there a limit to the number of icons in a stack in grid view. If there is none, it will absolutely replace Categories. Also, I was wondering why the stack doesn't remove the icons from SpringBoard. I think this should be an option. :) Great Work, though.
ReplyDeleteI prefer it not to remove the icons from the springboard, that way if something goes wrong the icons are safe and sound.
ReplyDeleteYou can always remove the icons using SBsettings.
I love this app, the only thing that is missing so far is multiple stacks
I've just made my donation. But how do I get the app?
ReplyDeleteHey, does anybody know if I'll still get an update when a new Alpha upgrade comes out, or do I have to donate again?
ReplyDeleteWould it possible to put the link saved in the home screen into the Stack (right now it's not possible)?
ReplyDeleteJust donated! Can't wait to grab my alpha copy =] this looks seriously epic.
ReplyDeletestill wating for the app,
ReplyDeletedonated 2$

@Fastfox I'm going to need more information than that to be able to help you? When did you donate? Under what name
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your hard work! Donated twice yesterday just because you are awsome!
ReplyDeleteebay@shireyshack.com

Just donated!!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to get a copy!
